Cline Church Nursery is owned and operated
by Cline and Ellen Church. We have been in
business since 1977, a healthy 32 years and
counting. We began as a small operation
doing all the work ourselves. Now we have
around 500 acres of Christmas trees and
nursery stock in various stages of growth
with plans to continue our harvest seasons
for years to come. We employ 15 full time
people and bring in seasonal help when
necessary.
Our family is all involved in some fashion
with our business, for which we are very
blessed. Daughter and husband, Amber and
Josh, are both very active in the business.
Amber works full time between our office and
her own, just next door, in sales of nursery
and landscape tools and supplies. Our son
Alex works full time with us at just
whatever needs to be done each day. Our
native county of Ashe is still where we call
home today. Cline’s family traditionally
farmed cattle and some row crops locally.
While still in high school, Cline started
planting Fraser Fir on his father’s farm.
Thus originated the idea for Cline Church
Nursery. Since then the business had
gradually grown and has expanded into
something more than we could have ever
imagined.
The entirety of our year round operations
center around three major focal points. In
the Spring (March, April and May) we are
selling balled and burlapped nursery stock
such as Norway Spruce, Colorado Spruce,
White Pine and Hemlock. The Fall months of
September and October bring about a similar
version of our Spring activity. However at
the end of October we must quickly switch
gears and carry out the other approximate
60% of our annual business over the next
month and a half. We wholesale cut Christmas
trees, mostly Fraser Fir, and wreaths and
roping to other nurseries, landscapers,
garden centers and other retailers in the
Northeast and Midwest. Many of our Christmas
tree customers are those who have already
received one or multiple shipments from us
earlier in the year of nursery stock. Some
only deal in Christmas trees like those who
set up in farmers markets across the
country, run corner lots in towns, or are
produce vendors the rest of the year. We
even ship several of our trees to chain
stores. Another group of our customers are
those organizations that sell Christmas
trees and wreaths as fundraising
opportunities. These include Boy Scout
Troops, churches, sororities, other clubs,
etc.
What we wish others to see in us is the joy
that we have doing something we love. Yes,
it does involve lots of time and hard work,
but don’t most things that are worth it
require such? God bless!
